Here the digital pictures from yesterday; I'll have the river pictures up in the next couple of days. You were an outstanding bunch to spend the day with. And what great sports. Thank you.
Assignment: those who were not along, please finish and post yesterday's assignment. And anyone on the trip, write a reflective piece on the blog.
I had a good time yesterday. It was cool to hang out with everyone and have a day to try something new with eeverybody. Glad I had the oppurtunity to do this because I don't know if I would have thought about trying it otherwise.
ReplyDeleteYesterdays rafting adventure was a truly wonderful experience, the right way to start off every morning. I had a lot of fun diving into a small hole and then freezing balls. I want to do this again only a little more crazy next time. It was nice to breath fresh air and pump the muscles.
ReplyDeleteYesterdays rafting trip definitely goes on the top of my list of funnest things I have done. I only wish it wasn't so cold! My hands were numb the entire time, but it was so worth it. I was a little scared at first, after the guy's speech about falling out of the boat - he made it seem like it was going to be really hard not to. But, it actually wasn't that bad. It was like being on a water ride at an amusement park, but cooler. Plus, the scenery was gorgeous! I loved being able to walk right up to that waterfall - I would have jumped in the hole inside it too, if it hadn't been FREEZING. And, I absolutely loved the people who were in my boat! :) I definitely want to try to go rafting again, on a warmer day. It was thrilling and exciting and beautiful, and I'm so glad I went.
ReplyDeleteThe rafting trip yesterday really gave me a great experience. In a way I think it's the senior trip and that was a great trip. I really enjoyed the cave jumping and it was a little nerve wrecking but it was definitely an experience I won't forget. I definitely wish it wasn't as cold but I enjoyed the cold because it made it very unique. The rapids really scared me sometimes but it was still so amazing. I most definitely plan to do it again. I can't wait until I have a chance to go again. Afterwards was a little too cold though! It was an amazing experience though. I love Ms. Parker for giving us the chance to go!
ReplyDeleteYesterday’s rafting trip was so much fun but very tiring. It is an experience that I will remember forever, and most likely wouldn’t have tried on my own. It was fun being able to “float” down the river and spend the whole day with a boat load of friends. I defiantly want to go again someday only when the weather is nicer.
ReplyDeleteYesterday was a lot of fun! At the beginning of the rafting ride, our boat got turned around and we got stuck on a rock. We were the last boat for a long time, but once we started working together, we got to the front of the group! My favorite part of the day was when we stopped at a waterfall and got to jump into a pit underneath the falls. We bounced up immediately, but the several seconds of disorientation was scary and fun. Overall it was a good day and it has left most of us tired, yet satisfyed.
ReplyDeleteThis Trip was very amazing to me because It was a 1st hand experience for me. Im glad I signed up for an adventure during senior year because unfortunatly the senior class hasnt really been given any trips or fun opportunities.....so thankyou ms.parker! I know that I shouldnt have worn my water flipflops while rafting but I did due to the comfort of the shoe and the satisfaction to my foot when I wear them. haha. Loosing my shoes in the water was hilarious and made it even better....because then Michael had grabbed one of them while the other floated away. It was at the bottom of the waterfall swirlin in a circle over and over and then I cxrossed the rocks to reach it. lol Fun experience. I have to say the best things of this trip was that it was in fact a learning experience as well as a health day. When I say health day I mean that we were doing a physical activity which is basically the substitute for sports and our lunch was like a diet. It was all healthy foods. I think trips like this is good because the human body is getting what it needs-a healthy workout and a healthy meal. But aside from all of this, this trip was a blast. Everyone had fun and communication was constant amongst us seniors, the teachers, and the Water Rafting guides. I was very pleased with this trip and would love to do it again someday.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED IT!! It was freezing and cold but very fun. At the first rapid we turned around and hit huge bumps and venessa and I screamed and jumped in the middle of the boat!! hahaha So this was worth it for the memories before i graduate. I hope other classes will be able to do this because its a great experience. I loved working with my friends in our boat and im glad we did it on our own without a guide. Im glad i was able to do this through school because i feel like these experiences are what we will remeber most.
ReplyDeleteDenisha:
ReplyDeletei had a ot of fun yesterday it was a different experience ..had alot of laughs...Only problem was we had to keep saving nastalsia n her crew butts hahaha...the whirlwind we did on the last waves was extremely
fun but then josh group had to copy us lol...overaall it was fun but the cold wasnt so pleasing...i look like a wet poodle afterwards (so did michelle haha)
The rafting trip yesterday was actually extremely fun! Upon arriving there, in the cold rainy weather and having to hike through muddy roads to get to the shore, it seemed like the trip would not be to enjoyable. However it was the best field trip ever. My friends and I tried to move down the river in a straight line, yet we seemed to zigzag our way down. The first set of rapids our raft turned completely around and we were screaming as went down backwards. However by the end of the journey we were able to row in sync. All in all it was a very fun trip, and the best part was the hot chocolate at the end.
ReplyDeleteNastalsia- I was skeptical about going on the trip. I cant swim so i had a rough time imagining myself in a boat riding through the current. I had never been rafting so other people's accounts are all i had to go off of. When the instructor told tales of rafters falling out, I thought twice about walking to the river. I decided to hike down anyway, hoping my fears would pass. Chandel, Zoe, and Liz were my partners in crime for the day. We had a rough start, spinning in circles and getting stuck on rocks. After a few bumps from josh and Michelle's crew,we finally got the hang of it. All the rafters made a few stops along the way. One stop we mad was at the water-fall. The first one to jump was Nate. When jumped in I immediately told myself i was never going to do it. I stayed true to my word, but watching all the other people do it was good enough for me. Along the river we had humorous times also. My crew's goal was to pass Alanna's boat and say, "peace out suckas." (all Liz's idea, ofcourse) It never happened though. We were also supposed to beat Noah's boat back to camp, but that also didnt happen. After we caught up to Raina's crew we all decided to sing songs from "Rent." But the best time was when we got back to camp. We got to eat! This trip was a great experience for me. It also helped with team building. Over all it was really fun.
ReplyDeleteMichelle - Yesterdays rafting trip was something new and different for me. Being cold is not really my thing because of my low tolerance for low temperatures but I enjoyed trying this. The good things about the trip was the teamwork and laughter among us. My teammates Maya, Brittany and Denisha worked well with me. oh and how could I forget our guide we wouldnt have made it without her. She gave us so many breaks it was awesome. I also enjoyed splashing people rafts as we passed by them. I wish it was warmer though because by the end of them trip I experienced hypothermia. Not really but my lips were very blue! Anyways one thing that I didnt enjoy much was the short sleeved wetsuits. I wish it was full body but hey I cant complain atleast we didnt go rafting in just our bathing suits because me and Brittanys was small and faded. Another thing I didnt enjoy was stopping and helping out Salsa(Nastalsia)raft because they kept getting stuck on a rock. Let them stay on Plymouths rock already. After about an hour or so I couldnt take the cold weather any longer I wanted to get out the water and get into some dry clothes. But overall I had fun with mi amigas and I dont know whether i'd do it again. Maybe if somebody pay the $25 for me i'd go. But according to the whole bus my hair looked amazing by the end of the trip.
ReplyDeleteOn the way to Letchworth Park yesterday, I was excited and nervous for the rafting trip. Being sick on top of it only made me more anxious, as the cold rain came down on us. However as we squeezed into our damp cold wet suits and oversize life jackets, I forgot about being sick and couldn't wait to get out in the water. Once we got to our boats, Felisa, Caroline, Venessa, Claire and I all hopped in one. I was the captain and steered us down the river. At first I was nervous having to sit on the back end but I liked having control of the boat and also calling orders. The five of us had a lot of fun battling through rapids, often traveling down them backwards, as well as trying to steer clear of cliffs, and racing other boats. Going over rapids was my favorite part, as the boat zig-zagged and bounced up and down, waves crashing all around, all of us screaming as if we were about to be thrown into the water below. The other scary, exciting part was jumping into the waterfall. Along our way we stopped at a waterfall tucked inside of the cliff. It was a struggle just to get up to the waterfall, as you walked against the current over slippery rocks. Once I reached the top I looked at the water fall less than a foot away from me and my eyes grew with terror. However with my adrenaline flowing and my curiousity rising, and the guide right next to me, I took the leap and jumped through the water into the underwater cave below. As soon as I jumped I became dillusional, unaware of what was going on. Next thing I knew I was being pulled out of the water by the guide and felt almost high from the rush of all of this. After leaving the water fall everyone was quite tired and the way back was still enjoyable but I was pretty much ready to go home. We all were soaked and freezing from the cold water and rain, and couldn't wait to get into dry clothes and start our picnic. Over all the trip was a lot of fun, and I would definitely do it again. I think this was a great experience and gave seniors a chance to just relax and enjoy themselves for a day. It felt like a reward for all the hard work we've done throughout our years at SOTA. I'm very thankful to Mrs. Parker for planning this trip and for making it possible for us all to participate.
ReplyDeletethe rafting trip was an amazing expereance and im glad i had the chance to go. my favorite part of the trip was when we had the oppertunity to jump in the hole at the waterfall. allthough it was a little scary and the water was really cold both the adrenalin and the thrill i got from jumping in was worth it. another one of my favorite parts was when we went down all the rapids especially the bigger ones. because i was in the raft with the guide who was leading the pack we had alot of time to float and enjoy the scenery that sourrounded us. even though i knew most of the paddle strokes from a previous canoeing trip i had the chance to perfect my skills. overall i had a blast on the trip and i would jump at the chance to go again. i made alot of memories i mad will stay with me forever.
ReplyDeleteYesterday's trip was hand's down the best field trip i ever took at sota. It showed me an experience totally outside of something i have ever done before, and took everyone out of their normal comfortable boundaries of rochester to try something new. it was empowering and a once in a lifetime experience-giving many people an oppurtunity to do participate in something they would have never gotten the oppurtunity to do otherwise. It built teamwork and cooperation skills and was a bonding experience for everyone. It inspired people to trust each other and be comfortable with each other in the face of something totally new. and everyone was very tolerant and helpful of each other. If someone was having difficulty, others sincerely attempted to help out. everyone relied on each other and had to contribute equally to the group effort otherwise it wouldnt have worked. Even though it was freezing out and the water was cold, everyone perservered with good spirits. People even found the courage to jump into a pool of water under the waterfalls. I was scared at first but im so glad i did it, because that is an oppurtunity i will never have again. :-) All in all, it was definitely the best outing i have ever had with my peers, and a memorable and empowering experience!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis trip was a blast to be remembered by all seniors who attended. The bad weather dampened sprits in the beginning but did not affect a single person once the group got moving. This experience was a great way to end a long break and hang out with your friends. For me this was the peak of my extended vacation, this rafting trip was a trip of gorgeous scenery in the rainy morning with mist on all the mountains were at some points on the road you could not see 3 feet in front of the bus to massive canyon walls living up to its reputation of the grand canyon of the west. To the jump into the mouth of a massive foot freezing, courage testing water falls. Lastly the exciting adrenalin rush of the river while steering the raft from the back for two intense hours.
ReplyDelete(insert at top) on the bus ride there i was so excited to be going on the trip i had a hard time sitting stll on the bus. as we got closer the adrenlin started to build. when we got there we got into our wet suits (they were cold) and then put on our dry jackets which kept us warm.
ReplyDeletethe trip was pretty cool. I thought it was fun that we had to really work together to keep the boat moving and going straight. I was a comfortable temperature until we got out of the boats to jump into the waterfall and then it was freezing! I thought my toes were going to fall off when we were walking back up the hill. The cold feetsies were worth it though. I had a lot of fun!
ReplyDeleteyesterdays trip was great. it was great to be able to hang out with some of my fellow students. the bus ride was great but my favorite part of the entire trip had to be seeing ian jump out of our boat and pulling amber into the water.
ReplyDeletei just wish it wasnt so cold!
ALTHOUGH MS.PARKER WOULDNT WAIT FOR ME TO GET TO SCHOOL AND I HAD TO FOLLOW THE BUS THE WHOLE WAY THERE... the trip was great!! I had so much fun and it was definitely the best trip i've been on in a long time and was worth the drive ;) I loved the boat i was on (claire, caroline, alanna, and felisa) and loved how although we were at the back of the group we were able to work together and were eventually were able to pass everyone. Jumping in the hole under the waterfall was also really fun tho it made me mega cold afterwards lol

ReplyDeleteyesterday was fun except when i fell and that was even fun so i don't know what i'm talking about the rafting trip was just exciting all around especially the beautiful scenary.
ReplyDeleteThe rafting trip yesterday was a really fun experience. The cold wind and rain, for me, made it all the better for I felt like a warrior! It was fun to work with my friends and for us to accomplish making it down the river all on our own, minus the help we received multiple times getting unstuck. Although I wasn’t able to go into the waterfall it was at least fun to watch my fellow classmates experience the jump. The scenery from the raft was amazing. The detail that we saw from the boat would never have been able to enjoy otherwise. Overall the trip was just very thrilling and enlightening, exposing us to nature, teamwork, and a sense of togetherness with out class. I am very glad I was able to go on trip.
ReplyDeleteThis trip was a great experience. Although we DID freeze our butts off, get stuck on the river in the rain, and some of us (me) forget to bring key articles of clothing to change into, it was not anything else that i could have asked for. If in some people's eyes this may not have been exactly the epitome of an educational experience, they can not be more wrong. Although far from a conventional approach, sometimes it takes moving outside of the box for a unique memorable experience.
ReplyDeleteWe were able to learn in an atypical environment and take a part in an experience many of us wold not have been able to otherwise. There was a friendly sense of competition and it was something that i think everyone benefitted from.
....also:
DON'T BE MAD BECAUSE OUR BOAT DESTROYED YOURS AND MADE YOU EAT OUR WAKE. BUST IT OUT AND GET ON OUR LEVEL.
Rafting yesterday was the more fun than when I went to the Grand Canyon (which isn't all that "grand" in my opinion). It was the first time I had ever been white water rafting and I learned a lot more about that region. I learned that some of our neighbors in northern Pennsylvania are a bunch of non-green rednecks. A white wall tire was just stuck on a branch 50 ft. up the wall. They dump their trash into the river to dispose of it with the idea that out of sight is out of mind. But, destroying the ecological environment through pollution and being lazy is worse than murder. The death of one is not equal to the death of future generations. I understand that some people don't see the advantages of protecting such a pristine natural wonder. To have a view of such local beauty has inspired me to become more of an activist instead of my normal pacifistic self.
ReplyDeleteYesterday was fun. My group was beast and funny as heck, the waterfall was crazy fun and every ones faces where hilarious when the came out of that hole. All around a great day, and really fun to hang out with every one. Thankyou Mama P
ReplyDeleteThis was one of the most fun trips I've been on. However I don't think I'll every do it again or if I do I will make sure that it was HOT outside!!! Before we got there I was so excited to wear the wetsuits, but when I put them on they were wet and stink:-( I was a little concerned when the director showed us how we had to sit in the boat because I can't swim and we where really close to the water. Once we got out there everything was fine and but it was just cold!!! but other than the cold I had lots of fun with my fellow seniors:-)
ReplyDeleteThe forecast predicted light rain, cold weather, and cloudy skies. Surely, our rafting trip was destined to be miserable. There is nothing desirable about being surrounded by cold water, on all fronts but such preconceived notions were easily thrown out the door when we arrived at Letchworth.
ReplyDeleteThe bus ride was long but enjoyable. We sang songs, talked amongst ourselves, and shared muffins along with other edibles. It took an hour just to get to the Letchworth entrance and another thirty minutes driving through the park. The park was gorgeous. It was a needed break from the streetlights and city bustle. There was fog in the hills and around the river. The trees, the stone, the hills were gorgeous. I must formally say that ms. Parker is a talented individual for putting this all together and realizing the benefits that out of class learning experiences can have.
Rafting was an experience I’ll always remember. Definitely something I’ll want to do again. It was a team building experience. You had to learn to work together and support each other to keep all in the boat. Cooperation and teamwork are two vital skills that all need to be successful in their life, two vital skills we learned by just being outside. I really do hope that other SOTA students will have the same opportunity we had. It was the highlight of my senior year and I thank Ms. Parker for the opportunity. She truly knows what she is doing in all respects.
That rafting trip was by far the only and best trip i went on this year. Even though it felt like i was Walt Disney freezing to death, I enjoyed being with my friends and having a good time. This trip did show that teamwork was the only way to get the job done because if we didnt paddle in unison, it would have taken us a very long time to reach our destination. I want to thank everyone on this trip for not acting like wild banchees, and i really wanna thank Ms. Parker for making this all possible. <3 Britt
