Your articles are in the process of being edited. Thanks for all your hard work.

Class today: I'd like you to take a look at the Sydney Morning Herald, (http://www.smh.com.au/world/ ) Browse through the paper, noting the various sections and what is of topical interest. Do you see any commonalites with our local paper? Next: look at the Washington Post's (http://www.washingtonpost.com/)world headlines. On the comment section of today's blog, write the down what is the major headline each shares and why you think this is so. Also what is a fixie?Since some folks have a yahoo account, please put your first name on the top of the response, so that you get credit.

This is the last week for projects. Presentations begin next Monday.

On October 13 Ms. Belair will come in to give you the overview on the senior exit interviews, We'll have four days in class to complete the sections. More to oome on that.

  3. Both The Washington Post and the Sydney Morning Herald have headlines about Iran's recent testing of a missle, as well as articles on global warming. Both of these articles are about things that are important no matter where you are in the world. The Iranian test-missle is first on both websites, probably because the knowledge that Iran has advanced missles is something that all governments now need to be careful of.

The two Newspapers share multiple headlines including the ones about Iran’s nuclear test firings and climate change. This is because both of these are global issues.

  7. yes, there are similaries to our newspaper. In our newspaper and the smh.com.au/world/ link, iran's test firings of a missle are noted. I think test- firing makes good practice for "defending and preventing". Global Warming is noted in both. This is because global warming had impacted our environment in more than one way and is changing continuously as time goes on.

  8. Both the Herald and the Washington post wrote about Iran's test firing missle and the increasing global warming. Global warming is affecting Australia by creating droughts and in the Post, a world newspaper, global warming is concerning everyone. The missle from Iran is said to be able to hit Jeruselam the eve of Yom Kuppar which could create a war and this concerns everyone.

The similiarities between the two newspapers are global warming and test firing missiles in Iran.

A fixie, is also known as a fixed gear bike. It has one speed with no brakes, and a free wheel mechanism. The chain directly drives the rotation of the rear wheel, meaning the pedals are always moving.

A fixed gear bike, also known as a fixie for short, is an old school bicycle taht is without a free wheel. This means that the wheels and pedals are locked together and must spin at the same time. It is becoming more and more popular in urban enviornments despite its impracticality.

On both the sydney newspaper and on the Washington Post newspaper there are World Topic headlines. they both discuss the Iran test firing advanced missles. that seems to be the only commonality. This is the major headline for both of them because it is big news.

Within the Sydney Morning Herald I found the headline reading Flood Hero 'gave his life for my baby' quite interesting. Some things that seem similar to our local newspaper are the stories regarding nuclear weapons and global warming. A fixie is a fixed wheel bike which does not have the ability to coast.

  27. The Sydney Herald(from Australia I'd guess?) has mostly world headlines. The top headline on both pages regarded Iran test firing powerful missless.

The DandC has top headlines about Rochester, which makes sense. I didn't go in depth enough to find anything else.

A fixie is a bike with fixed gears. From what I understand, it's become kind of a trend to ride a fixie bike, mostly because it's retro. My brother just converted his ten-speed to a single speed to be part of this trend.

  30. fixie: a bicycle lacking a freewheel mechanism in the rear hub. That is the crank set and rear wheel are completely dependent of one another. To propel forward or backwards the pedals must be moving.

Both headlined with the Iranian missle test-firing the night before Yom Kippur. I think this headlined because it involves this war, which interests all sorts of people. Also, because it happened on the eve of Yom Kippur, I think it evoked sympathy from Jews and others that are sensitive to the subject.

Both papers have headlines concerning iran test firing advanced missiles and the film director Roman Polanksi's arrest. i think the news on nuclear testing headlined because the weapons that other countries own have always interested our country and many people are interested on the latest news on the war and the middle east. I think the news about Roman Polanski headlined because its an odd story that has to do with a very famous director and the atory would interest many people.

A fixie is a fixed-gear bike which has only one speed, no free wheel, and the pedals always turn while the bike moves because of how the chain is connected to the bike.

  40. fixie: a bike with fixed gears that cannot coast without the pedals moving. it is able to move backwards and eliminates the use of brakes

Both newspapers' headlining article is about Iran testing their nuclear war missiles. I think this is so because Iran denied even having nuclear weapons and they're now testing them publicly.

Both of these world news websites shared headlines on Iran test firing missiles. The war in the Middle East and the test firing of these missiles are important topics all around the world, so it makes sense that it is the first headline on both pages.
